Saudi Arabia To Hold Major Investment And Energy Conferences Despite Airport Attack

Jarida Report

RIYADH: Organisers of two major Saudi energy and investment conferences say the events will proceed as scheduled this month despite deadly missile attacks on Riyadh’s airport that killed four people and damaged an airliner.

The attacks have disrupted air travel, prompting flight cancellations and alternative travel arrangements. The UK, France and Germany have also advised their citizens to avoid Riyadh.

The World Petroleum Congress, scheduled from Sunday to Thursday, is expected to bring together leading oil executives, policymakers and foreign officials. Organisers have assured delegates that security arrangements are in place and suggested alternative routes to the Saudi capital.

Meanwhile, the Future Investment Initiative, Saudi Arabia’s flagship investment conference, is scheduled for October 26–29. Organisers said security measures would cover airports, conference venues, hotels and transportation for participants.

However, some officials have adjusted their travel plans. Italian Energy Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin said he would attend a related ministerial meeting virtually rather than fly to Riyadh.

The developments come amid escalating conflict involving Yemen’s Houthi movement and Saudi Arabia, alongside flight suspensions and cancellations by several international and regional airlines.
