Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi has said Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) plans to mobilise two million supporters for a march on Islamabad on September 27, while reiterating the party’s commitment to the vision of its founding chairman Imran Khan.
Afridi made the remarks on Friday while inaugurating a tree plantation campaign in Spin Khak, Nowshera, where he urged local residents to participate in the planned Islamabad gathering.
He said holding government office or remaining in power had never been PTI’s principal objective, adding that the party would continue pursuing the political vision laid out by Imran Khan.
During the event, Afridi planted a sapling to formally launch the campaign. Provincial Health Minister Khaliqur Rahman, Special Assistant on Forests Pir Masoor Ghazi and members of the provincial assembly were also present.
Turning to the plantation initiative, the chief minister said the provincial government had originally aimed to plant 1.4 million saplings in a single day, but the Forest Department surpassed the target by planting 1.7 million.
Afridi praised the department for exceeding its goal and said public funds were being directed towards initiatives intended to provide long-term benefits for future generations.
He also cited Garhi Chandan, where he said local residents had earned Rs70 million through forest-related activities, as an example of the potential economic benefits associated with such projects.
Referring to recent flash floods and cloudbursts in the province, Afridi directed the relevant authorities to broaden the plantation drive across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
