PTA Intensifies Monitoring Over Illegal Sim Issuance

Jarida Report

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has tightened monitoring to curb illegal SIM card issuance.

According to details, the PTA has extended the period for removing a SIM from a person’s name from 60 days to 365 days. It has been stated that a newly activated SIM cannot be removed from the registered name before one year.

The PTA has directed that biometric verification during SIM issuance be carried out with due care. Consumers have been advised to regularly check the number of SIMs registered against their identity card for the protection of identity.

According to the statement, in the event of any unauthorised or suspicious SIM registration, the relevant mobile operator should be informed without delay, and only SIMs in personal use should be registered against the identity card.
