Protest in Muzaffarabad Turns Deadly as Gunfire Erupts

Jarida Report

In a rally in the capital of Pakistan-controlled Kashmir, Muzaffarabad, at least one demonstrator was killed and another 25 wounded after gunfire erupted. The protest held under the leadership of Awami Action Committee sought lower electric charges, food subsidies, and suspension of some government allowances. The peaceful march turned out to be chaotic, with shots fired and people panicking, witnesses claimed.

The Committee alleged that the security forces were shooting at civilians, and the local authorities were accusing armed elements of causing the violence. The government reacted by blocking mobile and internet services in the region to avert future upheavals.
