PPP, PML-N Split Bagh Seats as Re-Polling Results Finalised

The PPP and PML-N secured one seat each in Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Bagh division after unofficial results were finalised following re-polling at 23 polling stations on Saturday.

In LA-15 Bagh-II, PPP candidate Sardar Zia-ul-Qamar emerged victorious, defeating PML-N’s Raja Mushtaq Minhas by 1,900 votes.

Voting had been repeated at nine polling stations, where 5,032 voters were eligible to cast ballots. Before the re-polling, Zia-ul-Qamar held the lead with 16,637 votes against Minhas’s 15,015. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Brigadier (retd) Raja Muhammad Khan was third with more than 12,000 votes.

The PML-N prevailed in LA-16 Bagh-III, where Sardar Mir Akbar Khan finished with 20,793 votes after re-polling at 14 stations.

PPP candidate Sardar Qamar-ul-Zaman Khan finished second. Prior to Saturday’s voting, Mir Akbar Khan had 18,950 votes compared with Qamar-ul-Zaman’s 15,750.

The 14 stations where voting was repeated had a combined electorate of 7,238.

With the two contests now decided, PPP and PML-N have taken one Bagh seat apiece from Saturday’s re-polling.

Meanwhile, the AJK Election Commission has issued notifications confirming the winners of two other constituencies.

Sajid Iqbal, representing Jammu and Kashmir Awami Dast-o-Bazu, has been notified as the winner of LA-14 West Bagh, while PPP’s Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has been confirmed as the successful candidate from LA-17 Haveli.
