The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) remained ahead in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly elections by Monday, according to unofficial and preliminary results, as vote counting continued across the region’s 24 constituencies following polling held a day earlier.
Polling was conducted on Sunday from 8am to 5pm, with 13 seats required to form the next government in the strategically important region. Voting took place at 1,691 polling stations, where more than 7,500 polling personnel were deployed. A total of 130 candidates representing 24 political parties, along with 266 independent candidates, contested the elections.
The Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly consists of 33 seats, including 24 filled through direct elections, six reserved for women, and three reserved for technocrats and professionals. Reserved seats are allocated to political parties under the proportional representation system.
According to unofficial and preliminary results available by Monday, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) was leading with 11 seats. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) was ahead in five constituencies, while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was leading in three seats. Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen had secured one seat, while independent candidates were leading in two constituencies.
