Negotiations between the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the federal government over allegations of rigging in the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections have made progress, with another round of talks scheduled for Friday, according to sources.
The PPP delegation will include Senator Nayyar Bukhari, Qamar Zaman Kaira and Nadeem Afzal Chan, while the government’s team will comprise Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam and Murtaza Javed Abbasi.
Sources said the previous meeting focused largely on the AJK elections, during which the PPP presented its concerns over the electoral process and submitted what it described as evidence of irregularities in four constituencies of Mirpur Division.
The constituencies represented by Chaudhry Yasin, Javed Budhanvi, Pervez Ashraf and Chaudhry Ikhlaq were among those discussed.
During Friday’s meeting, the PPP is also expected to seek assurances of transparent elections in Muzaffarabad Division and on the migrant (Muhajir) seats.
Following the earlier talks, the party’s negotiating team briefed PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, after which the leadership expressed confidence in the dialogue and approved a fresh round of negotiations, party sources said.
