PPP Alleges Polling Delays, Irregularities in Second Phase of AJK Elections

Jarida Report

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Sunday raised concerns over polling delays and alleged electoral irregularities during the second phase of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, while the AJK Election Commission postponed voting in one constituency due to heavy rain and landslides.

PPP AJK Election Cell In-charge Sardar Abdul Shakoor claimed that polling in LA-28 was delayed after election staff failed to reach 71 polling stations before the scheduled start time, leaving large numbers of voters waiting to cast their ballots.

He also alleged that polling in LA-29 was disrupted because staff had not arrived at most polling stations on time, warning that the delays could affect the transparency and timely conduct of the election. He urged the Election Commission and district administration to immediately deploy the remaining polling personnel.

Meanwhile, the AJK Election Commission announced the postponement of polling in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I, citing heavy rainfall and landslides that blocked roads and prevented election staff and polling materials from reaching voting centres.

The Commission said a new polling date for the constituency would be announced later in the day and apologised to voters for the inconvenience, adding that polling in all other constituencies was continuing as scheduled.
