The Power Division has raised concerns over the possible theft of consumers’ personal information through QR codes placed on electricity bills, issuing a formal advisory for public awareness.
According to the Power Division, certain individuals are allegedly using QR codes to redirect users to suspicious links where they are asked to share personal information in multiple steps.
Officials said users are first directed to a specific link and then asked to enter a six-digit code after submitting their details, warning that such practices are being used for malicious purposes by certain elements. The division clarified that consumer information related to electricity bills should only be entered on official platforms, and submitting data through any other source is illegal and unsafe.
