Police Register Negligence Case After Lahore Tuition Centre Roof Collapse

Jarida Report

Police on Wednesday registered a criminal negligence case against the owners of a property and a construction worker following the roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore’s Kahna area that claimed the lives of 14 children and injured eight others.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was registered at Kahna Police Station on the complaint of Kashif Aslam, an enforcement inspector with the Lahore Metropolitan Corporation.

The case includes Sections 322 and 337-H of the Pakistan Penal Code, which relate to causing death by negligence and causing injury through a rash or negligent act.

Police have named four suspects: three brothers who own the property and a construction worker who was carrying out repair work on the building.

Investigators said repair work was underway while children were attending classes at the tuition centre. The FIR alleges that construction material had been placed on the already weakened roof, causing it to collapse under the additional weight.

Police said evidence collected from the scene points to negligence during the repair work as the apparent cause of the incident, adding that further investigations are underway to determine the criminal liability of those involved.
