Pakistani ultra-runner Jamal Syed has completed a gruelling 275-kilometre run from K2 Base Camp to Skardu in 74 hours, setting a national record and drawing attention to Pakistan’s potential for adventure and endurance sports.
Jamal, a Backyard Ultra Asia Champion and three-time Pakistan national champion, completed the mountainous route in a single continuous effort, without an extended rest period or stopping to sleep.
The challenge had initially been planned as a world-record attempt, beginning at an altitude of around 6,000 metres. Severe weather conditions, however, prevented the team from proceeding with the original plan.
Following the change in conditions, Jamal and Lok Sahaita revised the challenge and pursued a national record instead.
Jamal said the achievement was intended to promote trail running, ultra-marathons and adventure sports in Pakistan, while also showcasing the country’s potential as a destination for sports and adventure tourism.
He dedicated the achievement to Pakistan and its younger generation, saying his goal was to encourage more young people to take up endurance sports.
“This journey was not for me personally. It was for Pakistan and for the young generation of Pakistan,” Jamal said.
