Pakistan Steps Up Regional Diplomacy as Ishaq Dar Holds Talks with Iranian and Omani Counterparts

Jarida Report

Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar held telephone discussions with his Iranian and Omani counterparts on Thursday as diplomatic efforts continued to ease tensions and restore stability in the Middle East.

During his conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Dar reviewed recent regional developments and stressed the importance of maintaining diplomatic engagement to resolve outstanding disputes.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, Dar emphasised the need for “sustained dialogue and diplomacy to address outstanding issues.”

He urged all parties involved in the regional crisis to remain constructively engaged, reiterating Pakistan’s position that continued negotiations were essential to securing lasting peace and preventing further instability.

The foreign minister also spoke separately with Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi earlier on Thursday. Their discussion covered recent regional and international developments, although further details were not disclosed.

Albusaidi subsequently held a separate telephone conversation with Araghchi, reflecting continued diplomatic contacts among countries seeking a negotiated resolution to the conflict.

The discussions come against the backdrop of renewed hostilities involving Iran, the United States and Israel.

The conflict began on February 28, 2026, when American and Israeli forces launched military strikes against Iran. A ceasefire was subsequently reached in April, followed by a memorandum of understanding negotiated through regional mediation in June.

However, the diplomatic arrangements failed to hold, and fighting resumed in July, renewing concerns about the possibility of a wider regional confrontation.

Since then, regional governments have continued efforts to bring the opposing sides back to negotiations and establish a more durable settlement.

Pakistan has repeatedly advocated dialogue as the preferred means of addressing the crisis, while Oman has maintained diplomatic contact with parties involved in the dispute.

Thursday’s conversations underscored the continuing efforts of regional governments to keep communication channels open despite the breakdown of earlier agreements.

No new agreement or specific breakthrough was announced following the latest discussions.
