KARACHI: Shahrah-e-Faisal Police have registered a case against Pakistan Railways Police officials for allegedly kidnapping and torturing a Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) city warden, police said.
The case was registered on the complaint of City Wardens Director Saim Imran, who alleged that railway police officials assaulted him and took him to an undisclosed location during a dispute over road construction and traffic management in Karachi.
According to the First Information Report (FIR), road repair work has been underway for the past four months on the stretch from Natha Khan Bridge to Pehlwan Goth near Chakor Nullah in Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Imran stated that he was performing traffic management duties at the site when Station House Officer (SHO) of the Railway Police Ahsan Rashid arrived with other personnel.
The complainant alleged that he was beaten, forced into a police mobile and taken to an undisclosed location, where he was tied up and subjected to severe torture.
According to the FIR, the officials allegedly pressured him to hold their feet and lick their shoes. When he refused, he was allegedly beaten so severely that he lost consciousness.
Imran said he regained consciousness at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.
Sources said police had been directed not to take further action without approval from senior authorities.
Meanwhile, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab said railway police personnel had committed a serious injustice against a KMC official and that legal action was being taken.
“We face difficulties when we work, but we will not allow anyone to mistreat this city,” the mayor said, assuring KMC employees that he stood with them.
In a counter-development, the Railways Police also registered a case against KMC officials, including City Wardens Director Saim Imran.
The FIR reportedly includes serious charges, including attempted murder, terrorism, interference with official duties, encroachment on railway land and issuing death threats.
