Pakistan Power Shortfall Surpasses 4,000MW As Loadshedding Intensifies

Jarida Report

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s electricity shortfall has exceeded 4,000 megawatts, triggering temporary load-shedding schedules across several areas.

The shortage has been linked to the shutdown of several power plants and reduced hydropower generation. Consumers in urban and rural areas are facing three to four hours of load-shedding, with some areas reportedly experiencing outages almost every hour.

LESCO’s shortfall has crossed 1,000MW and has reportedly reached up to 1,500MW, raising concerns over prolonged outages in the coming days.

Meanwhile, IESCO has announced temporary power shutdowns in parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Jhelum and Chakwal on October 6 due to development and infrastructure work.

The power situation could improve if offline plants resume operations, but fuel availability and lower hydropower generation remain major challenges.
