Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Sunday conveyed Pakistan’s condolences to Venezuela over the devastating earthquakes that struck the country last month, reaffirming Islamabad’s “unwavering solidarity” with the Venezuelan government and its people.
Dar expressed the message during a telephone conversation with Venezuela’s newly appointed Foreign Minister Félix Plasencia, according to Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO).
The two powerful earthquakes, measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, struck Venezuela on June 24, just 39 seconds apart, causing widespread destruction. According to National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez, the disaster has claimed at least 5,069 lives and injured 16,740 people.
In a post on X, the Foreign Office said Dar congratulated Plasencia on his appointment before extending Pakistan’s “heartfelt condolences” over the loss of life caused by the earthquakes.
He also reaffirmed Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity with the Government and the people of Venezuela during this difficult time” and expressed confidence in the country’s resilience and recovery efforts.
