ISLAMABAD: The federal government has reduced the price of petrol by Rs3.13 per litre while raising the price of high-speed diesel by Rs3.74, with the revised rates taking effect on Saturday.
Under the latest adjustment, petrol will sell for Rs345.87 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs378.05 per litre. The new rates will remain in force from September 5 to September 7.
The revision comes under Pakistan’s recently introduced system of more frequent fuel-price adjustments, adopted in response to sharp fluctuations in international oil markets during the US-Iran conflict.
The government continues to collect Rs114 per litre in taxes and duties on petrol and Rs100 on diesel, according to the Petroleum Division.
Fuel prices have retreated substantially from their peaks earlier this year. Petrol reached Rs458.41 per litre in April, while diesel climbed to Rs520.35 per litre after the outbreak of the US-Iran war disrupted energy markets.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik announced in July that fuel prices would be determined daily in line with international market movements, with the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority responsible for calculating adjustments.
