CLEVELAND: Former US President Barack Obama has criticised President Donald Trump’s war on Iran, arguing that the conflict has raised costs for Americans and strengthened Tehran’s leverage over global oil supplies.
Speaking at campaign rallies in Cleveland, Ohio, and Detroit, Michigan, on Saturday, Obama described the conflict as an unnecessary war and urged voters to support Democratic candidates ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.
“Most importantly, he decided to start an unnecessary war that nobody asked for,” Obama said in Ohio, according to AFP.
He also linked the conflict to rising energy prices, arguing that the war was contributing to increases in the cost of everyday goods.
Obama’s remarks brought the conflict into focus as Democrats campaign on economic concerns and seek to challenge Trump’s policies ahead of the midterm elections.
