Noreen Niazi, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has submitted a written response to the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA), stating that she had not been formally served with the notice issued against her and only became aware of it through social media reports.
In her reply to the notice dated July 18, 2026, addressed to Sub-Inspector Muhammad Waseem Khan in Enquiry No. RE-2031/2026, Niazi said she could not confirm the authenticity of the document, noting that it had been sent to an address where she does not reside.
She stated that, as a resident of Lahore, the notice requiring her appearance in Islamabad by 12:00 p.m. on July 20 made compliance within the specified timeframe impractical. Nevertheless, she said she was responding “for the sake of clarity” and without prejudice to her legal position.
Niazi argued that the issuance of a notice did not diminish her constitutional rights and maintained that the NCCIA’s authority to require an individual’s attendance must be exercised within the limits of the law and remain subject to judicial review.
She further contended that the notice failed to identify any complainant other than the generic reference to the “State”, did not specify the legal provisions under which the inquiry was being conducted, and omitted details of the material or platform forming the basis of the investigation.
According to Niazi, the notice lacked sufficient particulars and did not explain why her personal appearance was necessary at the preliminary stage instead of seeking a written response.
She maintained that requiring a citizen to appear without providing the basic details of the allegations fell short of the standards of a lawful investigation and argued that investigative notices should facilitate inquiries rather than harass individuals.
Referring to her family, Niazi said that despite what she described as the “unlawful confinement and state persecution” of her brother, Imran Khan, and her son, Barrister Hassaan Khan Niazi, it was inconceivable that she would seek to defame any state institution.
