Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday launched his party’s election campaign in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), describing the region as his second home and reaffirming his commitment to its people.
Addressing a public rally in Muzaffarabad, Nawaz said AJK was as dear to him as Punjab, adding that his party had never discriminated in carrying out development projects across AJK, Gilgit-Baltistan and the country’s four provinces.
Nawaz was joined at the gathering by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and former AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider.
Expressing his emotional attachment to the region, the PML-N leader said both Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) were an integral part of his identity.
“AJK and IIOJK are my homes,” he said. “Kashmir is my home, and the people of Kashmir are my own people.”
Nawaz also said he wished to serve as the Prime Minister of AJK, adding that he would request Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to appoint him to the post if the PML-N secured victory in the upcoming regional elections.
He further pledged to visit AJK every three months if the party was elected, promising to personally address the concerns and problems of the people.
