No Trees Will Be Cut During Islamabad’s F-9 Park Upgrade, Mohsin Naqvi Assures Residents

Jarida Report

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured Islamabad residents that the planned redevelopment of F-9 Park will not involve cutting down any trees or constructing new concrete buildings.

In a statement shared on social media platform X on Sunday, Naqvi responded to concerns raised by a resident about the environmental impact of proposed improvements to the capital’s popular recreational space.

The minister shared an Instagram video in which a citizen urged authorities to prioritise greenery rather than introduce additional concrete structures during the park’s redevelopment.

Acknowledging the public’s attachment to the landmark, Naqvi said F-9 Park, also known as Fatima Jinnah Park, “holds a special place in the hearts” of Islamabad residents.

“Let me make it absolutely clear that not a single tree will be cut, 100 per cent guaranteed,” he declared.

Naqvi also pledged that the redevelopment would involve “no new concrete structures”, addressing concerns that construction could compromise the park’s natural environment.

Instead, the proposed improvements will focus on upgrading existing recreational facilities while preserving and expanding green spaces.

According to the minister, the development plans include better lighting, a lake, coffee shops, improved pedestrian walkways and the planting of thousands of additional trees.

He maintained that the initiative was intended to make the park more attractive and accessible without sacrificing its environmental character.

“Our only goal is to make F-9 Park greener, safer, more beautiful, and more enjoyable for families and visitors,” Naqvi said.

The proposed improvements form part of broader efforts by the Interior Ministry and the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to enhance public spaces and recreational facilities throughout Islamabad.

Naqvi has previously outlined plans to improve the capital’s infrastructure, environmental sustainability and tourism potential.

The minister has described his broader vision as creating a “more developed, clean, green, beautiful, safe, environmentally sustainable and citizen-friendly capital”.

The latest assurances come as residents seek guarantees that development projects will preserve Islamabad’s green spaces.
