The death toll from this year’s monsoon season has risen to 126, with 404 people injured in rain-related incidents across Pakistan between June 26 and August 1, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
The NDMA said electrocution remained the leading cause of fatalities, followed by flash floods, drowning, lightning strikes, house collapses and falling trees.
In its latest report, the authority recorded four deaths and 16 injuries over the past 24 hours. Sindh accounted for three of the fatalities, while Punjab reported the highest number of injuries.
Punjab has recorded 47 deaths, including 19 children, and 295 injuries, among them 68 children, since the start of the monsoon season.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported the highest death toll at 55, along with 82 injuries, while Sindh recorded five deaths and seven injuries. Balochistan reported eight deaths and 15 injuries during the same period.
The NDMA also said rescue operations continued across the country over the past 24 hours, with teams rescuing nine people in Punjab, two in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and five in Sindh.
