According to a new report, Pakistan experienced a marked rise in militant violence in the last three months, as the number of attacks has increased by 46 percent in the past quarter. According to the research, which was compiled by a security think tank, attacks were concentrated in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan and targeted law enforcement, civilians, and infrastructure. The report cautions against an alarming increase in suicide bombings and cross border intrusion attempts.
Analysts attribute the surge to weak border security and the resurgence of militant groups. The federal government has made a commitment to enhance counter-terror activities, yet experts have warned that a holistic political and economic approach is also critical. Citizens in impacted areas live in fear, and insecurity is increasing even as winter approaches.
