Sanitation workers employed by the Suthra Punjab Authority staged protests at several locations across Lahore on Saturday after alleging unauthorized salary deductions and the non-payment of a promised Eid bonus.
Workers in the Gajumata area halted waste collection services and staged a sit-in, suspending the operation of garbage collection rickshaws. Similar demonstrations were also held in the Wagah area, where workers blocked roads in protest.
The protesters said they had been assured an Eid bonus, but it was not included in their salaries. They also objected to deductions made from their wages without explanation.
The workers said they had worked 24-hour shifts during Eid, despite extreme heat, to carry out citywide cleanliness operations.
They warned that the protests would continue until the salary deductions were reversed and the promised Eid bonus was paid.
