Jarida Report

After a gap of nine months, President Asif Ali Zardari has summoned a joint session of Parliament today (Tuesday) at 11:00 AM. A 15-point agenda has been issued, outlining a series of important bills scheduled for approval in today’s parliament session. According to the agenda, the National Commission for Minority Rights Bill 2025 will be presented in this session, marking a major step toward institutionalizing protections for minority communities in the country. The National Assembly Secretariat Employees (Amendment) Bill 2025 will also be taken up during the sitting. Sources indicate that the long-awaited Journalists and Media Workers Protection Bill may also be introduced during the session.

Other bills likely to be presented include the Minority Rights Commission Bill and the Pakistan Animal Council Bill, both aimed at addressing governance gaps in respective sectors. Lawmakers are further expected to approve the Biological and Toxin Weapons Convention Implementation Bill 2024, which aims to strengthen Pakistan’s framework for preventing the development and use of biological and toxic weapons in line with international obligations. Another key point on the agenda is the Pakistan Institute of Management, Sciences and Technology Bill 2023, which seeks to establish a new national institute dedicated to management and technology education. It is pertinent to note that this will be Parliament’s first joint session after nearly nine months, and observers anticipate that several of the proposed bills could shape key policy directions in governance, security, and human rights.
