KDA Development Projects Set to Improve Karachi Connectivity, Cut Travel Time

Jarida Report

KARACHI: Karachi Development Authority (KDA) Director General Zain-ul-Abideen Ansari inspected four ongoing development projects in the city to review progress on infrastructure schemes aimed at improving connectivity and easing travel for residents.

During his visit, Ansari inspected the Siddiqui Jokhio Bridge in UC Chohar, District Malir, where a major portion of construction has been completed.

The bridge is being constructed to provide a safer and more reliable crossing over the Malir River, particularly during the monsoon season when heavy rainfall frequently disrupts existing routes.

Ansari said the bridge would establish a direct link between the M-9 Motorway and Education City, improving access for students, residents and other commuters. He added that the route would help reduce travel time, fuel consumption and vehicle operating costs.

The KDA chief also inspected the road connecting Check Post-4 in Malir Cantonment to Zakaria Town. Around 90% of the approximately 1.25-kilometre road has been completed.

The project was launched in April this year with a planned two-year completion period. Ansari said its rapid progress reflected KDA’s focus on completing development schemes efficiently and improving access to Malir Cantonment, nearby areas and the M-9 corridor.

At Scheme 33, Ansari reviewed construction work on Rumi Road and Madras Road, which have a combined length of 1.7 kilometres. The project aims to restore important links between Ubaidullah Sindhi Road and Hazrat Sachal Sarmast Road, which had previously been non-operational or severely deteriorated.

According to the project assessment, restoration of Rumi Road is expected to shorten travel routes, while reconstruction of Madras Road is improving traffic flow, drainage, pedestrian movement and access to residential and commercial areas. The project has achieved 88% physical progress.

Ansari said restoring the roads would facilitate daily travel while supporting residential and commercial activity in Scheme 33.

KDA engineering officials accompanied the DG during the inspection and briefed him on the progress and technical aspects of the ongoing projects.
