ISTANBUL: French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot has warned that further escalation between Iran and the United States could have serious consequences for global energy markets, including higher oil prices.
Speaking to reporters in Istanbul on Friday, Barrot said renewed tensions would leave all sides worse off and drive up oil prices.
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan also cautioned that another attack on Iran could intensify tensions and expand the conflict across the region.
Fidan stressed that diplomacy and dialogue remained the only ways to bring the war to an end. He added that none of the countries represented at the meeting supported another military intervention or attack on Iran.
The discussions took place in Istanbul, where Fidan met foreign ministers from Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Germany, France, Britain and Italy to discuss regional developments and efforts to prevent further escalation.
