Four people, including two Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) officials, were killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire in Dera Ismail Khan on Tuesday, according to District Police Officer Ziauddin.
The attack occurred at around 11:40am near Bhatti Pump on University Road, within the limits of University Police Station. Rescue 1122 teams reached the scene and recovered four bodies, which were being shifted to DHQ Hospital.
In a separate attack in the district, a highway patrol vehicle came under fire at Gulistan Chowk on the DI Khan bypass. The vehicle’s driver, identified as Habib, was killed, while mobile in-charge Subhan and another constable were injured.
Several other security-related incidents were reported elsewhere in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In Bannu, police said two suspected militants, identified as Sher Ayaz Khan and Adnan, were killed during an exchange of fire in Feroz Fateh Khel. Their bodies were taken to District Headquarters Hospital for post-mortem examinations and legal procedures.
In Tank, three people working at basic health units under the Aga Khan NGO were reportedly abducted from Grah Mitho. DPO Abdul Samad identified them as Saeed Anwar, Safiullah and Syed Basha.
Meanwhile, unidentified attackers used explosives to target the main gate of the home of Maulana Misbahullah, a member of the prime minister’s committee, in Khasokhel, South Waziristan, around midnight. The gate was damaged, but no casualties were reported.
In Upper Kurram, an RPG-7 round was fired at a house in Dal at approximately 3:30am, according to DPO Malik Habib. The attack damaged the house but caused no casualties.
Mobile phone services, meanwhile, began returning to Dera Ismail Khan after remaining disrupted for three days.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attacks in DI Khan and expressed condolences to the families of those killed. Referring to the continuing security situation in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, he said that “such cowardly attacks cannot weaken the nation’s firm resolve to fight terrorism.”
