A court in the United States on Tuesday sentenced former Taliban commander Haji Najibullah to 42 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release over his alleged role in hostage-taking incidents involving an American journalist and two Afghan nationals.
According to court documents, a court in New York City convicted the 50-year-old for “his role in the hostage taking of an American journalist and two Afghan nationals in Afghanistan and Pakistan in 2008 and 2009.”
He was also sentenced for leading Taliban fighters involved in attacks on US servicemembers in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2009, which resulted in the deaths of American soldiers.
