A new forensic report has revealed gunshot residue on both hands of businessman Mir Raza Ali, providing fresh evidence in the investigation into his death, sources said.
The report was prepared by the Industrial Analytical Center (IAC) at the University of Karachi’s International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) and submitted to the senior police committee investigating the case.
According to sources, gunshot residue (GSR) detected on both hands indicated that Raza had fired a weapon shortly before his death, with investigators believing shots were discharged using both hands near the crime scene.
Following the exhumation of Raza’s body, forensic teams collected 17 samples for examination, including four for GSR testing. Results from four samples, including DNA-related findings, have been received so far, while reports on the remaining 13 are still awaited.
Forensic experts cited by the sources said the findings were inconsistent with Raza shooting himself in the back, further weakening the earlier suicide theory. One possibility being examined is that he may have fired a weapon after perceiving a threat.
Investigators also collected GSR samples from Raza’s chest and back as part of the forensic examination.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage from near the crime scene has reportedly provided another potential clue. Sources said a faint sound believed to be a gunshot can be heard at approximately 4:37:55am to 4:37:56am, with a security guard appearing to react and look around moments later.
The forensic findings have now been uploaded to the police portal and shared with the senior investigation committee, while investigators await the results of the remaining samples.
