A Karachi court on Saturday directed Muhammad Ahmed, business partner of slain Wafflix owner Mir Raza Ali, to cooperate with investigators probing the 25-year-old entrepreneur’s murder and ordered him not to leave the city while the investigation remains underway.
The Additional District and Sessions Court East issued the directions while hearing Ahmed’s application for interim pre-arrest bail.
During the hearing, defence lawyer Khalid Mumtaz alleged that his client was being harassed by police and had been summoned to the crime scene rather than being asked to appear at a police station.
When the court asked who had allegedly harassed Ahmed, his counsel said the complaint concerned the former investigating officer in the case.
Mir Raza disappeared from PECHS on July 28, and his body was recovered the following day from bushes near a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Johar.
The circumstances of his death were initially disputed, with questions raised over whether he had been murdered or died by suicide. A second post-mortem subsequently strengthened the family’s position that he had been killed.
The investigation has since attracted intense public scrutiny over its handling, particularly after Sindh’s inspector general of police acknowledged shortcomings in the initial probe.
The court has now required Ahmed to remain available to investigators and barred him from leaving Karachi for the duration of the investigation.
