China Sends Second Medical Team to Congo as Ebola Death Toll Tops 400

Jarida Report

China on Friday dispatched a second team of medical experts to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) as the country’s Ebola death toll continued to rise.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the team includes specialists in epidemiology, clinical treatment and health quarantine. It follows the deployment of China’s first medical team to the DRC in early June.

Guo said the experts would continue working with Congolese authorities and international organisations while promoting scientific and technical cooperation tailored to local needs.

According to the DRC Health Ministry, the Ebola outbreak has infected 1,406 people and claimed 438 lives since it was declared on May 15, with a fatality rate of 31.2%.

Guo said China would continue providing assistance within its capacity to help African countries contain the outbreak as quickly as possible.
