Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has cancelled a planned family visit to the United States after encountering difficulties in obtaining a visa, according to Israeli media reports.
The Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported that the US Embassy informed Ben-Gvir he would be required to appear in person to provide biometric fingerprints as part of the visa application process.
Israeli media interpreted the requirement as a sign of reluctance by US authorities to grant him a visa.
Ben-Gvir had reportedly planned to travel to Miami to attend the wedding of the daughter of an Israeli businessman.
According to Haaretz, the minister initially sought to have the businessman cover the cost of the trip but later agreed to pay the expenses himself following criticism from Israel’s state comptroller.
