ISLAMABAD: The federal government is considering several options in response to the evolving situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), ARY News reported on Tuesday, citing well-informed sources.
According to the sources, the government is considering asking the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to unconditionally withdraw the date announced for its proposed long march.
Sources said that if PTI refuses to withdraw the march date, the federal government is considering invoking Article 234 of the Constitution in KP.
Articles 232 and 234 provide for emergency measures and other constitutional actions under specified circumstances, including measures concerning provincial governance.
Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar has indicated that an emergency could be imposed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa if required under the Constitution.
The government’s final course of action will depend on further developments and the legal and constitutional considerations involved.
