Armenian President Vahagn Khachaturyan on Sunday formally reappointed Nikol Pashinyan as the country’s prime minister following his party’s victory in the recent parliamentary elections.
In a decree published on the presidential website, Khachaturyan said: “Based on Article 149, Part 1 of the Constitution: Appoint Nikol Pashinyan as prime minister.”
Pashinyan’s Civil Contract Party won the June parliamentary elections, securing a fresh mandate to form the next government.
Under Armenia’s Constitution, the government resigned after the newly elected National Assembly held its first session, with the outgoing cabinet continuing in a caretaker role until a new administration is formed.
Pashinyan had earlier announced that his party would nominate him for another term, paving the way for his reappointment and the formation of a new government.
