All 144 passengers and crew members were safely rescued after a ferry caught fire in waters off Indonesia’s Lombok island on Wednesday, according to local media reports.
The vessel was travelling from Padangbai port in Bali to Lembar port in Lombok, in Indonesia’s West Nusa Tenggara province, when the fire broke out.
Emergency teams evacuated everyone aboard the ferry, with authorities confirming that no casualties were reported.
The cause of the blaze was not immediately known, and authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The fire marks the second reported ferry blaze in Indonesia within the past two weeks, raising renewed concerns over maritime safety in the archipelago.
Indonesia relies heavily on ferries to connect its thousands of islands, with maritime routes serving both local communities and major tourist destinations, including Bali and Lombok.
