China, Russia, and Iran to Hold Nuclear Talks in Beijing on Friday

China will host a trilateral meeting on March 14, 2025, in Beijing with Russia and Iran to discuss the Iranian nuclear issue. Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu will chair the meeting, with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov and Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi in attendance. 

This meeting follows a recent closed-door United Nations Security Council session addressing Iran’s expanding uranium enrichment activities, which have approached weapons-grade levels. The International Atomic Energy Agency has raised concerns over Iran’s acceleration of uranium enrichment to 60% purity, nearing the 90% required for weapons-grade material. 

In 2015, Iran agreed to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) with major world powers, including China, Russia, and the United States, to limit its nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief. However, the U.S. withdrew from the agreement in 2018, leading Iran to scale back its commitments. China has expressed support for Iran’s legitimate rights and advocates for the resumption of nuclear talks.
