The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has commended Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing governance and addressing corruption vulnerabilities. Following a scoping mission to Islamabad from February 6 to 14, the IMF acknowledged the government’s commitment to a Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment (GCD). This assessment focuses on six core areas: fiscal governance, central bank operations, financial sector oversight, market regulation, rule of law, and anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism. The IMF team engaged with various Pakistani institutions, including the Finance Division, Federal Board of Revenue, State Bank of Pakistan, Auditor General’s office, Securities & Exchange Commission, Ministry of Law & Justice, and the Supreme Court.
