An anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi has granted police a four-day physical remand of Armaghan, the prime suspect in the murder of 23-year-old Mustafa Amir. This decision follows the Sindh High Courts directive to overturn previous ATC orders that had placed Armaghan in judicial remand and called for a probe committee.
Mustafa Amir was allegedly kidnapped and murdered by friends on January 6 in Karachis Defence Housing Authority. His body was later found in a burned car in Balochistans Hub area on January 12 and was initially buried unclaimed in Karachi. The victims family received a ransom call days after the kidnapping, which investigators suspect was meant to mislead them.
Police arrested Armaghan earlier this month after he allegedly injured officers while resisting arrest in connection with Amirs abduction. Another suspect, Sheraz alias Shavez Bukhari, was also remanded into police custody last week.
Meanwhile, a judicial magistrate has approved the exhumation of Amirs body to determine the cause of death, directing the provincial health secretary to establish a medical board for the examination.
Due to mishandling of the case, three junior police officers, including the SHO of Darakhshan police station, have been suspended and demoted for their unprofessional conduct during the initial investigation.
