PESHAWAR: An inquiry report into the deadly school building collapse in Peshawar’s Dir Colony has been submitted to the governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, identifying alleged negligence by the school owner and relevant government departments.
According to sources, the report has identified those responsible for the incident and recommended consulting the Law Department before initiating action against them. It also calls for strict measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The collapse reportedly killed 33 children and a female teacher, while 52 others were injured.
Police previously registered a case at Agha Mir Jani Shah Police Station in connection with the incident. According to the FIR, substandard construction materials were allegedly used in a school building described as dilapidated and unsafe.
The report further states that complaints had been made about the deteriorating condition of the building’s walls and roofs, but the school owners allegedly failed to address the concerns despite warnings from students.
According to the FIR, the roof of a nursery classroom on the second floor and several rooms on the ground floor collapsed.
The school is situated on a 16-marla plot owned by Waheed and Javed. The land was reportedly leased in 2024, after which the school building was constructed.
Any action against those identified in the inquiry report will be considered following consultation with the Law Department.
