LONDON/NEW YORK: Pakistani actor Meera says she was sent back to the United States after Canadian immigration officials stopped her at the Niagara border and questioned her for several hours.
Meera, whose real name is Syeda Irtiza Rubab, told Geo News she was travelling from New York to Canada to attend a show when officials refused her entry. The authorities have not publicly disclosed the reason for the decision.
“I still do not know why I was deported from Canada. I am trying to verify the facts,” Meera said, adding that she suspected someone may have filed a malicious complaint against her.
The incident follows previous immigration difficulties in the United Kingdom, where Meera was refused entry and later faced visa-related issues. In July 2025, she appealed publicly for a British visa to visit her sister, who was receiving cancer treatment in London.
Meera holds a U.S. Green Card and has travelled to the United States for personal and professional engagements. It remains unclear what prompted the latest action by Canadian immigration authorities.
