WASHINGTON: The Pentagon has instructed the US military’s Central Command to prepare for a possible resumption of strikes against Iran, Axios reported, citing US officials.
According to the report, US President Donald Trump has not made a final decision on renewed military action, and no date has been set.
Axios reported that any potential strikes could target nuclear, infrastructure and energy sites.
A White House official told Axios that the US was in a strong position due to its control of the Strait of Hormuz and pressure on Iran’s economy.
The report follows earlier claims that the White House had asked the Pentagon to develop plans for renewed strikes ahead of the November US midterm elections.
