Father Allegedly Throws Three Children Into Jhelum Canal After Taking Them for Outing

JHELUM: A man allegedly threw his three children into the Upper Jhelum Canal after taking them out for a meal, prompting a search operation by divers, police said.

According to police, the accused, Raja Zeeshan, is a drug user and had been married for nine years. Police said he had a domestic dispute with his wife around six months ago, after which she went to stay with her parents.

Police said the couple reconciled a few days ago and the woman returned home. The accused later took his children in a car, telling them he was taking them out for an outing.

According to police, after taking the children out and feeding them, Raja Zeeshan allegedly threw them into the canal. The children were identified as eight-year-old Fajar Zeeshan, five-year-old Umar Zeeshan and two-and-a-half-year-old Noor Fatima.

Following the incident, police said the accused went into hiding and posted pictures on social media. Mangla police later arrested him, after which he allegedly confessed to throwing the children into the canal.

Police reached the site and called in divers to locate the children. The search operation in the Upper Jhelum Canal remains underway.
