Islamabad police recovered a newborn safely and detained three women after responding to the alleged abduction of the baby from the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) late on Tuesday night.
An official told APP that a team from Karachi Company Police Station acted after receiving information that a newborn had been taken from the hospital. The child was subsequently recovered unharmed, while three women were taken into custody for questioning.
According to the preliminary investigation, the women allegedly approached the baby’s mother and gained her confidence by showing affection and care towards the newborn before taking the child away.
Sources said the three women were residents of Qila Gujjar Singh in Lahore. Two were reportedly sisters, while the third was said to be the daughter of one of them.
Hospital security personnel noticed suspicious activity and intervened, after which police were informed.
Investigators are now examining the precise sequence of events, including how the women were able to gain access to the newborn and remove the child from the hospital.
Police said questioning of the detained women was continuing and that the motive and full circumstances surrounding the incident would be established as the investigation progresses.
