Irish actor and longtime Palestine advocate Liam Cunningham has criticised Ed Sheeran following the removal of rapper Macklemore from the remaining US dates of the British singer’s Loop Tour.
“We know who Ed Sheeran is now,” the Game of Thrones actor wrote on X.
Cunningham followed the comment with another post that did not refer to Sheeran by name but addressed what he described as attempts to remain neutral over Israel’s war on Gaza.
“If you find yourself saying ‘I’m not taking sides’ during a genocide, you are. You most definitely are,” he wrote.
The remarks continue Cunningham’s years-long public advocacy for Palestinians. In April 2024, the actor said he had been involved in Palestine solidarity campaigns for “30 to 40 years” and criticised prominent figures who remained silent about Israel’s military actions in Gaza.
Speaking to Anadolu in December 2024, Cunningham said concerns about possible consequences for his acting career would not prevent him from speaking against what he regarded as injustice.
“I’ve never been a fan of injustice,” he said, arguing that those attempting to silence others possess only as much power as people allow them.
Cunningham also backed the Global Sumud Flotilla in 2025 as activists sought to challenge Israel’s blockade of Gaza and establish a humanitarian corridor to the Palestinian enclave.
He joined activists in Barcelona as the international flotilla prepared to depart for Gaza.
His latest comments follow Macklemore’s removal from the remaining US dates of Sheeran’s Loop Tour.
