Swedish DJ and producer Axwell is set to headline First Light, billed as Karachi’s first international electronic music event, on September 19 at Moin Khan Academy (DHA Sports Club), according to a press statement issued by OP Productions.
Axwell, whose real name is Axel Christofer Hedfors, is a member of Swedish House Mafia and one of the prominent figures in international electronic music.
The event has been conceived and creatively directed by OP Productions CEO Omer H Paracha, with its name First Light inspired by the moment of dawn.
Organisers said the event would feature a cinematic, light-focused production, combining Axwell’s headline performance with a purpose-built stage and large-format visuals. They said particular attention would also be given to audience safety and the overall experience.
Pakistani acts Bilal Brohi and Hazey will open the event before Axwell takes the stage.
OP Productions said it sees Pakistan as a largely untapped market for major international live entertainment, pointing to the country’s population of more than 240 million and its relatively young population as factors that could support greater interest from international touring artists.
The event marks an attempt to bring a large-scale international electronic music production to Karachi, potentially opening the way for more global artists to perform in the city.
