At least five road construction workers were killed and another seriously injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire at a worksite in Balochistan’s Sarana area, police said.
The attack occurred in the Sulemanzai area, where the workers were engaged in road construction. Police said the assailants targeted the labourers and also fired at construction machinery before fleeing the scene.
The five workers killed in the attack were reportedly from Punjab.
Police and security forces reached the site following the shooting and cordoned off the area. The bodies of the victims and the injured worker were subsequently shifted to hospital.
The incident came amid reports of separate deadly shootings elsewhere in Balochistan. A father and son were reportedly shot dead in Awaran, while another man was killed in Surab. Further details about those incidents were not immediately available.
Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti and Interior Minister Zia Langau condemned the attacks and said violence against civilians would not weaken the government’s campaign against terrorism.
“Terrorists should understand that the martyrdom of innocent Pakistanis cannot weaken our resolve,” the officials said.
