Investigators probing the murder of businessman Mir Raza Ali Khan have obtained CCTV footage from a mosque near the location where his body was discovered, providing new details about the timeline surrounding the recovery, sources said on Monday.
Raza went missing on July 28 after leaving his home in PECHS Block 2. His bullet-riddled body was discovered the following night in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar, opposite the University of Karachi.
According to investigative sources, the newly obtained footage has helped authorities establish when the body was first discovered and when police and emergency personnel subsequently arrived.
A gardener reportedly spotted the body at 11:52pm on July 29 and informed police. Two officers were the first to reach the location on a motorcycle, followed later by a police mobile unit.
An ambulance arrived at approximately 12:50am and departed with the body at 1:46am, investigators said.
Sources claimed that the crime scene team had not arrived even more than two hours after the initial discovery, raising further questions about the handling and preservation of the scene.
Investigators also learned that the gardener had watered the same area on July 28 and had not seen a body there, potentially helping authorities narrow down when Raza’s body was brought to the location.
Police have meanwhile carried out geofencing around the site and are examining additional CCTV recordings in an effort to reconstruct movements in the area and identify further evidence connected to the killing.
