Ukraine Submits New Peace Proposals to US as Zelenskyy Seeks Pressure on Russia

Jarida Report

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine has submitted proposals to the United States aimed at ending the war with Russia, as US-mediated peace efforts remain stalled.

“We passed our proposals to the American side,” Zelenskyy said in an address on Tuesday evening.

The Ukrainian president said Washington could play a crucial role both by strengthening Ukraine’s defences, particularly its air-defence capabilities, and by increasing pressure on Moscow to move towards ending the conflict.

“America can help strengthen our defence, first and foremost through air defence, and it can put pressure on Russia so that its plans change — from prolonging the war to preparing to end it,” Zelenskyy said.

His remarks come as diplomatic efforts to negotiate a settlement remain on hold, with the Russia-Ukraine war now in its fifth year.

Under US mediation, Russia and Ukraine held three rounds of peace talks in January and February in an attempt to establish a framework for ending the conflict.

Those negotiations subsequently stalled, with both Moscow and Kyiv pointing to Washington’s increased focus on Iran and the wider Middle East conflict, which erupted on February 28, as a factor behind the pause.

Zelenskyy’s announcement signals an effort by Kyiv to revive US engagement in the peace process while continuing to seek additional military support and diplomatic pressure on Russia.
