The father of murdered businessman Mir Raza Ali has alleged that his son’s friends were threatened and warned against contacting the family, visiting their home or participating in protests related to the case, as concerns continue to mount over the handling of the investigation.
Speaking about the case, Mir Hussain Ali alleged that the family had not been provided complete surveillance recordings and that police instead showed them selected footage from a digital video recorder (DVR).
He said the family had been requesting access to the DVR for around 10 days but was told it was in the vehicle of SSP Samiullah Soomro.
Mir Hussain also questioned the handling of a guesthouse suspected by the family of being connected to the case. He claimed the Ferozabad SHO initially told the family that the premises had been cleared, but after they continued pressing the matter, they were informed that it had been sealed.
According to the family, the guesthouse was sealed only recently, prompting questions about the delay and whether anyone had an opportunity to leave the premises beforehand.
Lawyer and activist Jibran Nasir, who represents the family, has separately made a series of allegations concerning Mir Raza’s final hours. Nasir claimed that the 25-year-old was held captive and tortured for around 12 hours before being killed.
He alleged that Mir Raza was subjected to acid and said investigators should determine whether he had also been forced to ingest a corrosive substance. Nasir further claimed that evidence suggested Mir Raza had been shot from behind and that a substance may have been injected into him before his death.
Nasir also raised concerns over the handling of Mir Raza’s smartwatch and other potential evidence, alleging that important material remained in the possession of an investigating officer for several days.
The allegations concerning torture, acid exposure, threats and the handling of evidence have not yet been established through final forensic findings or judicial proceedings. The investigation into Mir Raza Ali’s killing remains ongoing.
