The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is something I’m very passionate about. It’s one of the many things I allow myself to enjoy without wanting or having to critique Marvel projects. I don’t know if you feel this or have felt this, but the thought of your favourite characters, whether they be in TV, movies, or books, crossing over. The mere thought of your favourites interacting with their unique personalities, abilities, etc, is so exciting. This is exactly how I feel; we’re getting an Avengers movie after 7 years. With anything that’s able to be criticised, there’s also going to be random hate and valid complaints. I’ll talk about those complaints and also explain why I’m incredibly hyped for Avengers: Doomsday.
They’re throwing everyone in one movie
Think of all the beloved hero movies, books and TV shows; most of them do exactly that, and they do it well. I’ll give a DC example: characters often appear in other shows in the Arrowverse, such as Flash appearing in Arrow, Supergirl appearing in The Flash, or all of them coming together to fight a big villain. Avengers: Doomsday is the first of a 2-part culmination of over 20 years of Marvel cinema, with multiple heroes undergoing massive character development, and we as fans have been following these guys throughout these years. This has been my dream for as long as I can possibly remember: getting all of your toys and throwing them together, a sandbox in which you can make the most epic team-ups happen against the big bad villain, all with your imagination. Well, I don’t need to imagine this because Avengers: Doomsday is my dream come to life.
Dr Doom has no Build-up
The Introduction of arguably the greatest Marvel villain of all time, Victor Von Doom, aka Dr Doom, in the upcoming movie, pivoting from the Kang Dynasty after the Jonathan Majors scandal, looks like a great decision because of the team behind it. People are saying Doom has no build-up. I agree, but let me ask you a question. Did Darth Vader get any build-up? He was introduced in Star Wars Episode IV as the main villain, and many consider him to be the greatest villain of all time. Why not give Doomsday a chance before deciding?
I believe that if you can show me a body of work, and the majority of it, if not all of it, is top-quality work, you’re the right man for the job. The directors of Avengers: Endgame, the Russo Brothers, also directed Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Civil War, and Infinity War, and I’m supposed to be pessimistic because it’s a huge movie when the Russos have directed 2 of the biggest Movies of all time, which made a combined total of $4.8 billion at the box office worldwide.
The other 2 movies, both about Captain America, are widely regarded as the closest to Infinity War and Endgame and are generally considered all-time superhero movies. Add the same writing team to the Russos: Christopher Marcus and Stephen McFeely. When you have people who have been there and done it on the biggest stages and in the biggest productions, you tend to be more optimistic about their movies, like Doomsday, than in other cases.
It’s a Cash Grab
Of course it is. What kind of studio would this be if it didn’t want to make money? Avengers movies are known to be blockbusters, with the best moments and storyline conclusions reserved for them. However, with the above point in mind, I believe Avengers: Doomsday can and hopefully will be a box office success because the movie is praised by everyday moviegoers and die-hard Marvel fans alike, giving it the best of both worlds.
As an MCU fan, seeing the X-Men, the new Avengers, and the Fantastic 4 team up (and possibly more) is mind-blowing, and I cannot wait to see it unfold
